What's a Web Press? Is It Related to the Internet?

A web press processes the printing on a roll before it is cut. This has no relation to the internet.

The offset lithographic process is employed in web presses, just like sheet-fed lithographic or offset printing.

The utilization of a web press gives the power of speed as the equipment does not have to handle the cut sheet.

The web printing process is for large quantities of print requirement, but cannot be utilized for heavier cards. Web presses are categorized into cold-set and heat-set webs.

Cold-Set Web Printing:
This process is exactly the same as heat set web printing, but utilizes a faster drying ink, is only good for substrates that absorb the ink and therefore not suitable for coated papers. The cold-set press does not have a heat tunnel to dry the inks. Most news papers and offset sheets are best candidates for the cold-set process of print

Heat-Set Web Printing:
The heat-set web printing is similar to the cold-set web printing, with the addition of a heat tunnel that flashes or shocks the inks to a dry stage before the ribbon of paper exits the press. Mostly all heat-set webs have some form of finishing services on the press, such as gluing, perforation, scoring, die-cutting, slitting, and folding. Speeds from high 20,000 to over 100,000 impression per hour can be achieved utilizing this type of equipment for printing.
