How Can I Keep My Printing Costs Low?

Cheap printing is the efficient, high volume process where automation, technology and volume play a major role in reducing costs. The utilization of the modern technology of Computer-To-Plate (CTP), speed and savings of the automation in setups, make-readies, color control and registration of images on press makes for huge savings in costs in the production of the modern printed sheet.

Combined with reality in innovation, speed, technology and automation, the volume of work being produced in the same processes lends to further savings in the production of cheap brochures, sell sheets, flyers, leaflets, inserts, business cards and post cards.

If the project demands or dictates a low budget, then the following recommendations can be considered as a guideline to achieving the desired effect to the job.

1. Use the most common size for the project

2. Use the most common weight for the project

3. Use the most common paper for the project

4. Don't stipulate any special colors for the printed piece.

5. Try and use as few colors as possible, one color is the cheapest, black also is the cheapest color - most if not all printers don't charge to setup for black.

6. If the quantity is large, seek a printer that has larger equipment, so that the job can be printed on a larger sheet multiple up, reducing the print time on expensive equipment.

7. Make sure that your project is completely ready to go to print, and avoid any changes to it as this will create extra charges, not to mention delays.

8. Use printers that do the same type of jobs for different clients and gang them onto a single press run - this will save you the tooling costs as it is split between all the jobs on the sheet.
